Autumn in the Aosta Valley is the season of colors, traditions, and authentic experiences. 🍁 The mountains turn gold and red, the air gets crisp ❄️, and villages come alive with food festivals, cultural events, and local traditions.

🎭 Plaisirs de Culture: the festival that opens the autumn season in the Aosta Valley


What to expect

Now in its 13th edition, Plaisirs de Culture en Vallée d’Aoste is a cultural festival that opens the doors of castles, museums, archaeological areas, and hidden heritage sites across the region. Over 120 events in 10 days offer a unique chance to explore the Valley’s treasures with guided tours, theatrical performances, workshops, and special openings.


Theme 2025

The focus this year is architectural heritage, described as a “window on the past and a door to the future”: a journey through historical mansions, churches, and villages that tell stories of art, society, and cultural change.

Highlights

  • 🏛️ Palazzo Roncas (Aosta): theatrical opening show Omnia cum lumine with costumed actors (19 Sept), followed by light projections in the courtyards
  • 🏰 Castello di Issogne: special opening of the Chapel Sacristy with newly restored painted panels and manuscripts
  • 🏯 Castello di Verrès: visits with Prof. Bruno Orlandoni explaining architectural mysteries
  • 🪨 Megalithic Area – Aosta: workshops and activities about archaeology and landscape
  • 🔬 Behind the scenes: access to restoration labs and deposits usually closed to the public

A cross-border event that celebrates traditional rye bread, baked in restored stone ovens across alpine villages. A chance to rediscover ancient baking traditions and meet the communities that keep them alive.

  • 🏰 La Tour (Châtillon) – A hillside hamlet along the Via Francigena, with its medieval tower and vineyards.
  • 🏡 Saint-Vincent – Experience the community ovens once used for the annual village bake, reviving a true sense of sharing.
  • 🚠 Chamois (Suisse hamlet) – Italy’s only car-free village, reachable by cable car from Buisson (just 15 min from Châtillon). The restored oven bakes bread and pizza during the festival in a unique alpine setting.

🍯 Honey Festival – Châtillon, a celebration of tradition


What to expect

Every autumn, Châtillon turns into the “capital of honey”, celebrating one of the region’s most authentic products. The festival marks the symbolic “désarpa of the bees”: beekeepers bring their hives back from the high mountain pastures to the valley for the winter, offering the fruits of a season of hard work.

Highlights of the weekend

  • 🍯 Guided tastings with expert producers, to discover the unique aromas of mountain honeys (rhododendron, chestnut, linden, wildflower).
  • 🏺 Exhibitions of traditional beekeeping tools and stories of ancient techniques still alive today.
  • 🏆 Regional honey competition, awarding the finest honeys of the year.
  • 🎶 Side events with music, shows and activities that enliven the village atmosphere.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 A family-friendly festival, perfect for children who can learn about the world of bees through workshops and playful activities.

On the occasion of Grandparents’ Day, all grandparents accompanied by their grandchildren enjoy free admission to regional castles, archaeological areas and museums.


🎁 Promotion also extended to children and teenagers aged 0–18.

    A journey into international street art, featuring world-renowned names like Banksy and other key figures of the urban art movement that transformed cities into open-air museums.

  • 🚗 By car: 5–20 minutes to Saint-Vincent, Bard, Chambave
  • 🚌 By bus: regular connections from Châtillon to Aosta and nearby villages (bus stop near Liberty House Alps)
  • 🚠 Cable car: Buisson–Chamois cable car just 15 minutes away by car or accessible by local bus
