Located in the first Starlight Stellar Park in Italy and recognized by UNESCO, the Lignan Planetarium and the Astronomical Observatory of the Aosta Valley Autonomous Region offer immersive shows and night-time guided tours to discover astronomy suitable for all ages.

The shows at the Planetarium, (which are held every Saturday until 15 June 2024, and then resume in July and August every day from Tuesday to Saturday) allow you to virtually travel in space and time to discover the celestial bodies that populate the universe thanks to surprising images, are independent of weather conditions and take place every Saturday at 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm, always with a duration of one hour, but with different titles and contents depending on the period. in two different time slots:

The nocturnal guided tours of the Astronomical Observatory last an hour and a half from 9.30pm to 11.00pm (also organized on Saturdays until 15 June and then every day from Tuesday to Saturday in the months of July to August) with the difference that they take place outdoors. Flying in a hot air balloon between the Alps of the Aosta Valley, flying over the valleys and the peaks of Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Matterhorn and Gran Paradiso is an experience that is both exciting and relaxing, with an absolutely unique feeling of freedom.

The silence is interrupted only by the breath of the burner that heats the balloon, you can fly slowly, low to the ground, skimming trees, fields and small towns or rise a few thousand meters without almost realizing it.

The flights are managed by Charbonnier Mongolfiere, one of the most prestigious Italian balloon companies with over 40 years of experience, and depart every day of the week, early in the morning, near Aosta.

Hot air balloon flights are organized for adults and children (minimum height 130 cm) lasting one hour at a height of up to 3,000 metres, always in maximum safety.

In fact, the company, in addition to possessing the Aerial Work Operator Certificate and Air Operator Certificate, has pilots, technicians and consultants to carry out everything necessary for the best use of hot air balloons. The fleet is made up of around ten hot air balloons of various sizes produced by Cameron Balloons, a world leading company.

In a hot air balloon you have the impression of floating lighter than air, you know the take-off point but you don't know where the precise landing point will be: flying for the sake of flying without a predefined destination, but following the winds.

A breath-taking experience, to be done on holiday, for a birthday or for team building with a minimum of 5 participants up to a maximum of 35.

On the occasion of International Museum Day on May 18th and 19th, Aosta opens the doors to its cultural sites free of charge: the Early Christian Church of San Lorenzo, MAR - Regional Archaeological Museum, the Cryptoporticus, and the Area Megalithic.

However, entry is always free for the 0-18 age group every day.

MAR – Regional Archaeological Museum

Inaugurated in 2004, and renovated in 2010 with its current layout, it constitutes a fundamental point of reference for Roman archaeology, being almost entirely dedicated to the exhibition of finds from the ancient Augusta Prætoria.

Early Christian Church of San Lorenzo

Along the axis of the Decumanus Maximus, near the Porta Prætoria but in a secluded position, there is a quiet and secluded place in which there are two extraordinary testimonies of the city's early Christian history: the Collegiate Church of Saints Peter and Bear and the early Christian Church of Saint Lawrence.

The latter houses underground the remains of that building which, between the 5th and 8th centuries AD, welcomed the mortal remains of the first Christians of the Diocese placed next to those of their bishops.

Forensic cryptoporticus

In the center of Aosta, right next to the Cathedral, there is a small and charming garden: in this place, in the shade of the large lime tree planted at the beginning of the twentieth century, one of the most fascinating Roman monuments in the city opens up, the forensic cryptoporticus.

You cannot leave Aosta without having seen this underground jewel, capable of making you imagine the powerful monumentality of what is still called "Rome of the Alps".

Megalithic area

The visit to the megalithic area of Aosta is an invitation to discover the most hidden folds of the city, its soul and its thousand-year history by reaching the peripheral district of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans.

In fact, the largest covered Megalithic Area in Europe is located here: a special place where the site becomes a museum and the museum becomes a site in a continuous visual dialogue that accompanies the visitor.

Castello Gamba in Châtillon is the most recent of the castles in the Region, built at the turn of the 20th century by Baron Carlo Maurizio Gamba.

Since 2012 the Castle has been owned by the Region which has opened its doors to the public with a permanent exhibition which houses the collection of modern and contemporary art of the autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta.

Only until June 16th for photography lovers we highlight the temporary exhibition "Entre Chien et Loup", an ancient French expression that can be translated into Italian as "at nightfall". The title embodies the meaning of the project: telling that particular moment of the day characterized by the transition from light to dark. It is the time of twilight during which it is not possible to distinguish a dog from a wolf, as the French poet Jean-Antoine Baïf wrote in the 16th century.

The twilight described by Sophie-Anne Herin is that of the Envers, the Aosta Valley side occupied mainly by woods and characterized by the scarcity of daylight hours in the winter months.

The exhibition develops within the three floors of the Gamba Castle in a journey that starts from the earth and then goes beyond the borders of the mountains and arrives first at the sky and then at the dream
